What this site learns about you, what it never does, and how to change your mind — in plain words.
The short version
This is a personal portfolio. It does not sell anything, run ads, or ask who you are. It counts visits so I can tell which work people find interesting, and it only does that in full if you say yes — by letting the cookie in the bottom-left corner take a bite.
The cookie in the corner
The cookie is the consent question. You can answer it, change your answer at any time by opening it again, or ignore it. Ignoring it is the same as saying no.
If you haven't answered, or kept it whole
- Google Analytics is not loaded at all. Nothing is sent to Google.
- PostHog counts the visit without cookies. Pages viewed, where the visit came from (a search engine, a link, an AI assistant), and which parts of the page were seen. Nothing is stored on your device, and visitors are told apart only by a value that PostHog derives on its own servers and that changes every day.
If you let it take a bite
- Google Analytics is loaded and sets two cookies (
_ga,_ga_…) so a return visit is recognised as one. They last up to two years unless you change your mind, which deletes them. - PostHog stores a random ID on your device (a cookie and local storage,
ph_…) so a return visit is recognised, and records replays of how pages are used — scrolling, clicks, movement. Anything typed into a field is hidden in those replays. - Both receive your IP address with each request, as every website does; neither is asked to store it with your visit, and I never see it.
Changing your mind stops this from that moment on. What was already collected stays in those tools until it ages out.
Things the site does whatever you answer
- The visitor map in the footer. When a page loads, the server looks up roughly where the request came from, rounds it to about 11 km, adds one to that place's count, and throws the address away. No address is stored anywhere. Visits from the same device are counted once per 30 minutes.
- The city in the top bar. Pointing at "Bengaluru" asks ipwho.is, from your browser, roughly where you are, to show how far away that is. Only then, only once, and the answer is not stored or sent anywhere.
- The weather comes from Open-Meteo, for Bengaluru — nothing about you is sent.
- The chatbot, where it appears, sends your question to OpenAI to write an answer. The site does not store conversations. It keeps a short-lived count per address in memory, only to stop abuse.
